Organized by Capilano University, the event will be showcasing local innovation and creativity; demonstrating how business can be used as a force of good to implement change.
When: 10:30 – 2:00 pm, November 30th, 2017
Where: Lower Birch at Capilano University
Featured Groundswell community members:
We sell handcrafted, unique and high-quality purses and accessories in leather decorated with native art designs from Colombian indigenous groups. Our collection includes handbags, mochilas (100% handmade), wallets, makeup purses and coin purses. We are also expanding into a jewelry line that includes earrings, necklaces, and bracelets made of ‘Tagua,’ a palm tree native to Colombia.
As a slow-fashion advocate, Daphne Woo of AMACATA creates naturally dyed textiles (shawls, accessories), and makes jewelry from natural materials. She is an alumni of Capilano University. It was in one her classes here where she was first introduced to textile art in 1991. Stop by and say hello as she will also have some dye pots set up for demonstration purpose!
Buy an Ornament, Support Human Rights
For three years, Amacata has donated part proceeds of December sales to charity. AMACATA's charity of choice this year is Labour Behind the Label.
Available for you to purchase are fair-trade capiz shell ornaments from Kinta. These are hand-made by artisans of an old family business in the Philippines. 15% sales of these ornaments will be donated to Labour Behind the Label to help them continue their great work of campaigning for garment workers' rights worldwide!
